การใช้คำว่า suggest

suggest แปลว่าแนะนำ ในภาษาไทยเราพูดว่า

ใคร + แนะนำ + ใคร + ให้ทำอะไร

แต่ในภาษาอังกฤษ เราจะไม่พูดว่า
He suggested us that we should go to the beach.
แต่ต้องพูดว่า
He suggested that we should go to the beach. หรือ
He suggested that we go to the beach.
(ภาษาอังกฤษแบบอเมริกันจะไม่ใช้ should แต่จะตามด้วยกริยาช่องที่ 1 ที่ไม่มี to นำหน้า)

การใช้ suggest มีวิธีใช้ 3 ลักษณะ ใหญ่ ๆ คือ

1. Suggest that someone do something (แนะนำว่า ใคร ทำอะไร) รูปประโยคที่ใช้คือ
   
   Subject + suggest + (that) + subject + กริยาช่อง 1 ที่ไม่มี to
   
   คำว่า that อาจจะมีหรือไม่มีก็ได้
   
   ตัวอย่างประโยค
   
   The company suggested (that) we take an extra day off.
   ไม่ใช่ The company suggested us to take an extra day off.
   
   She suggests (that) we go out for dinner after the movie.
   He suggested that Somsak go for a drink. (ไม่ใช่ goes for a drink)
2. Suggest doing something (แนะนำ ให้ทำอะไร) รูปประโยคที่ใช้คือ
   
   Subject + suggest + gerund (กริยาเติม ing)
   
   ตัวอย่างประโยค
   
   The company suggested taking an extra day off.
   Her brother suggests studying harder so she can get into a good university.
   My trainer suggests eating less and exercising more.   I suggest wearing a hat to protect us from the sun. ไม่ใช่ I suggest to wear a hat to protect us from the sun.
3. Suggest something (แนะนำอะไร) รูปประโยคที่ใช้ คือ Subject + suggest + คำนาม ตัวอย่างประโยค I hope you can suggest a good hotel (to me).
   She suggested a walk before dinner.
   Can you suggest some interesting apps?
